DIGITAL PICTURES WRAPS ON POST-PRODUCTION FOR AWARD WINNING DOGSTAR
11 February 2008 - Digital Pictures has completed work on Australias hottest new childrens animation series Dogstar. Having previously worked with its producer, Colin South of Media World Pictures on the series Quads, Digital Pictures were appointed due to their expertise in working on HD Mastering delivery for broadcast world wide.
The 26-episode space-aged series, is set in the year 2347, and follows the adventures of the Clark kids as they go on an intergalactic search for their missing pet dog Hobart. The series will debut on the Nine Network commencing 16 February and will air Saturday mornings at 8.10am.
Made entirely in Australia, the show took some three years to complete and employed 120 people in several locations in Melbourne and Perth. Each individual episode took 58 weeks to complete from script to delivery and at the peak of production, the Digital Pictures team was simultaneously juggling production on all 26 episodes.
Although its yet to screen in Australia, the series has already collected the award for the Best Animated Opening Sequence (Broadcast) at Singapores Asia Image 2007 Apollo Awards.
This accolade follows Dogstars recognition as a finalist in a slew of local award events including the Australian Teachers of Media Awards (Best Childrens Television Series), Australian Effects and Animation Festival in 2006 (Best TV Animation) and the Australian Writers Guild AWGIE Awards (Best Childrens Television Script). Dogstar won the 2006 AWGIE award in the Best Childrens Television Script category.
Written by award-winning scriptwriters/script editors Doug MacLeod (Fast Forward, Kath & Kim) and Philip Dalkin (H20: Just Add Water, Wicked Science), this hilarious show is sure to prove a family favourite.
The series has been sold to more than 20 countries worldwide including the BBC (UK), ZDF (Germany), HBO (South America, Portugal and The Netherlands).
