Shaun Tan is a Melbourne based artist and illustrator who has become well known for his work on illustrated books that deal with social politics through dream-like images.
His book The Lost Thing is a humorous tale about a boy who discovers a strange looking creature while collecting bottle-tops. After guessing that it is a lost thing, he sets out on journey of belonging.
The Lost Thing received an Honourable Mention at the Bologna International Book Fair, Italy, was named an Honour Book at the CBCA Awards, and won an Aurealis Award and a Spectrum Award for illustration in the United States. Original illustrations from the book were exhibited at the Itabashi Art Museum in Tokyo.
Most recently a London-based film production company, Passion Pictures adapted The Lost Thing into a short animated film. This animated film recently received one of the highest accolades a film can be awarded, The 2011 Academdy Award (Oscar) for an Animated Short Film.
Digital Pictures' Senior Colourist Brett Mason worked with Shaun and the team perfecting the look of the animation through colour correction and calibration for cinema. Digtal Pictures is proud to have been involved in realising Shaun's vision in motion.
