Digital Pictures has a new theatre on site, in South Melbourne.
Created to accommodate 2D and 3D productions, the new theatre’s screen is silver on one side and white on the other and can rotate at the touch of a button.
The theatre is equipped with a 35mm film projector for work print screenings, a Lustre digital grading system and a Barco DP100 digital projector for Digital Intermediate grading. The 32 seat theater has one row of "gold class" recliner seats (four seats) and four rows of silver cinema seats. There is also a more generous and accommodating grading desk.
For 3D work, the theater has both XpanD and RealD viewing systems and is fully DCI* compliant for Digital Cinema with playback from our Dolby server including 5.1 sound.
"We wanted to build a theatre that was both exciting for staff to work in and for clients to visit and I think we have achieved this", Penelope Felton, Head of Digital Film, Digital Pictures.
The first feature to utilise the new theatre space will be Sanctum, Australia’s first 3D feature drama, which is now in post production. On the slate for 2010 is The Killer Elite, The Eye of The Storm, and The Cup.
